Falkland Islands or the Malvinas, the eternal dispute

A new chapter seems to have opened in the long-standing dispute over the sovereignty of the British-governed Falklands Islands, called the Malvinas by Argentina, which can be traced back 200 years. After the Argentinian government used the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Falklands War as an excuse to put the issue on the table, the UK government decided to hold the referendum on Islands’ political status, to be held the upcoming year. What are the origins of the conflict?
